Solid Ground (A Poem about Grandma)

You were the earth beneath my feet,

A steady place where love ran deep.

A force of grace, a guiding light,

A heart so vast, so warm, so bright.

With hands that held, yet never chained,

With eyes that knew but never shamed.

You saw the child, you saw the woman,

You saw the dream before it ran.

You wove soft worlds where time stood still,

Where laughter bent to meet your will.

Each grandchild had a sacred space,

A secret world, a love embrace.

You never turned, you never strayed,

You stood for us, yet made us brave.

And even when we lost our way,

You checked us firm, but let us stay.

Now laying you to rest today,

The solid ground feels swept away.

Yet though your vessel turns to dust,

Your love still breathes, it walks with us.

For God had willed that you be mine,

That I be yours, through love divine.

And if to serve was all I gave,

I’d give again—my heart unchanged.

So I will walk, I will endure,

Though footsteps falter, love is sure.

And when the winds call out my name,

I’ll feel your strength—I’ll rise again.
